The snow on an ancient monitor was the only light in the room. It neatly silhouetted the slim shoulders and thick wavy hair of the girl who sat in the middle of the floor. The floor was otherwise bare, so the girl sat on her knees facing the screen as if entranced.

None of them slept well. The night was filled with the sounds of unknown creatures; hoots and yelps and chitters. Neither Jasper nor Dez could remember the last time they’d spent a night in the wild and Zyon hadn’t been under a real sky in his entire life. 

Zyon awoke softly amid the scattered harem and was careful not to move, as this would no doubt cause a chain reaction of consciousness that he simply couldn’t handle with what he was beginning to realize was a mythic hangover.
